Mark October 2nd on your calendars and get ready to join us and vegans across the world as we mark the United Nations International Day of Non-Violence! Together we will voice and promote the non-violent principles of practising a vegan lifestyle.
The UN International Day of Non-Violence was adopted on June 15th 2007 at the UN General Assembly. The day is an occasion to "disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness". The resolution reaffirms the principles of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence and we propose that this can be achieved more completely by adopting a vegan lifestyle.
When we exploit animals, whether human or non-human animals, we are supporting violence. Violence can come in many forms whether it be physical, verbal, structural, psychological, etc… When we kill beings who did not want to die, or exploit animals via slavery, slavery-like conditions, or testing we are supporting violence. Animals are not commodities to be exploited, bought, sold, killed or eaten.
By adopting a vegan lifestyle, we make a stand against violence. A vegan lifestyle is the conscious, non-violent and compassionate choice to make.
